How a Fundraising Lottery Operates

The lottery would be controlled by your organisation as the promoter. The lottery is based on members being recruited into the scheme, and having the chance of winning a share of a guaranteed prize distribution. Winners are drawn at random on a regular basis for the duration of their membership.

Mechanics of a Membership Lottery

  • A regular draw would take place with guaranteed prizes in each draw
  • When an individual joins the lottery, they are issued with a unique 'membership number'
  • To enter their membership number into the regular draw, the member must pay an amount per draw
  • If a member has paid, then they have the chance to win one of the guaranteed prizes
  • All 'surplus' from each draw, i.e. monies remaining after all expenses have been paid, is profit for the charity

Sterling will operate the administrative duties of the lottery.

A marketing and promotion campaign is required to recruit new members into the scheme. Activities may include telesales, door to door canvassing, and mailshots. Sterling will advise and assist with this process.
