Inside a Fundraising Lottery

Your lottery scheme would be a subscription based lottery, with members being recruited into the scheme and having a chance of winning the prize distribution, with winners being drawn on a regular basis every week or month.

When an individual joins the lottery, they are given their own unique membership number which is entered into each draw. All surplus from each draw, i.e. the monies remaining after all expenses and prizes have been paid, is your profit.

Members would normally pay for entry into your lottery on a monthly, quarterly, six monthly or annual basis.  The price you charge for entry into your lottery is up to you, but this would normally be either £1 or £2 and individuals can have multiple entries.

Our systems accommodate a wide range of different payment methods for you  to choose from, including;

  • Cheques
  • Direct Debits
  • Standing Orders

  • Cash

One hundred percent of proceeds are paid directly into your bank accounts – Sterling holds no monies on your behalf, so your funds are under your control at all times.

£7.2m

The total prizes paid out across all Sterling's clients in 2008.

 £10,115

The average income per draw across all our lotteries.  This varies widely between lotteries, from the single '000's to £100,000per draw.

 A variety of prize and draw options are available, to suit your specific requirements, including:

  • Guaranteed prizes – a guaranteed, fixed prize structure
  • Variable prizes – a variable prize structure - usually based on a percentage of proceeds
  • Rollovers – a prize which is rolled over if not won – usually combined with one of the above.

We would normally suggest that the prize fund should be set relatively low initially – there is of course the potential to increase the prize fund as the lottery grows.

The frequency of the draw is up to you – this is normally either weekly or monthly, with most clients using a weekly draw mechanism. The winning numbers are securely selected by our Random Number generator (RNG) software, which has been officially certified and tested by a Gambling Commission approved test house.
