Here at Sterling we are targeting a new market – the payroll lottery market.
Over the past few years we have seen an increase in the number of companies who are running staff lottery schemes. Employees pay £1 per entry with many having multiple entries, this is usually deducted on a monthly basis from their salary. Money is raised for nominated charities and employees have the chance of winning a worthwhile prize whilst donating to charity.
Richard Dixon, Sterling’s Managing Director says “ This is not to be confused with the national lottery or national lottery syndicates. A company runs their own lottery for fundraising purposes. We look after all of the administration associated with running the lottery, therefore setting up a lottery is not a huge undertaking for a company”
The benefits of running a staff lottery are obvious for the nominated charity as they gain from the donated profits. However the company also benefits from raised staff morale and CSR profile.

Our client Bluebell Wood have re branded their marketing material and website. They have created a new logo which reflects the friendly nature of the children's hospice and new leaflet to promote the lottery. They have coincided this re-brand with introducing a rollover as the second prize in their lottery. The prize increases by £100 per week until the prize is won with a cap at £5,000. A rollover is a great selling point and more and more of our clients are deciding to introduce one to re-fresh their lottery. |

We all have friends and relatives who seem to have everything and are notoriously difficult to buy for at Christmas time. We enable our clients to offer a solution to this - A Lottery Gift Voucher.
How does this work
A friend or relative buys a gift voucher and the recipient telephones to activate the account. A lottery gift voucher means that the charity is benefiting and the person receiving the gift have the added bonus being in the lottery draw and perhaps winning a prize.
The charity also benefits from capturing data from the gift recipient and a letter can be sent to them prompting them to join the lottery and become a regular member. Most charities experience a good uptake from mailings. We realise the importance of recruiting new members to a lottery and this option is available to all our clients using our Vanguard Lottery Admin Service and Pathway.
1/12/09HLA Conference 2009
Sterling will be exhibiting at the Hospice Lotteries Association (HLA) Conference this week. The conference is being held at the Stratford Manor Hotel, Stratford upon Avon on Wednesday and Thursday (16th -17th September).
The HLA represents hospice lottery issues with government and other outside organisations and helps keep up to date with changing legislation, new technology and ideas. If you wish to start a lottery, acquire information, try something new or simply discuss an issue - the HLA is for you.
The conference gives Sterling the opportunity to meet with our existing clients and offer them marketing advice and make them aware of new products and services.Every year we meet with hospices currently using our competitor's products and they are always impressed by our systems, so much so we convert several over to use our services every year.

Every Week since the lottery was launched in October last year; the £250 second prize had not been won and had rolled over.
Under the rules of the competition, this can only happen until the prize reaches a maximum of £10,000. After this point only the numbers which have been purchased are put into the draw.
The lucky £10,000 winner "was over the moon to hear he had won".
